PARA-NEWS - RichardThomasBlog.com: Zoological Journalist - Richard Freeman, Considers the Question: Is Bigfoot A Man, Another Ape, An Unknown species of Bear, or All of the Above?

An excellent article by Richard Thomas on the Yeti, Bigfoot, etc. Some things were new to me; for example, the Yeti, depicted as a white haired creature and often referred to as 'the Abominable Snowman."

The confusion comes from a mistranslation of one of the beast's many names, Metoh-kangmi, Sino-Tibetan for 'abominable man of the rocks'. It was mistranslated as 'abominable man of the snows. This is where we get the western term ‘Abominable Snowman’ from. (Richard Thomas, Para-News)

Sasquatch Image and Item Synchronicity

Well, kind of a synchronicity I guess. Reading Thom Powell's Edges of Science (see post below) which arrived yesterday.

Items

Wondering (if not hoping) if my dreams would involve Sasquatch (they didn't) I did wake up this morning to this news item/filler in the local paper:

The item:

DNA analysis solves Yeti mystery: They're bears
After analyzing the DNA of nine purported Yeti specimens, scientists have found that five were, in fact, Tibetan brown bears, two were Himalayan brown bears and one -- a relics that looked like a fossilized hand -- belonged to an Asian black bear. (Register Guard, November 30, 2017)

No source as to who the scientists are or where the item came from. Just filler in the "Nation" section of the paper.

This is old news, especially the specimen that "looked like a fossilized hand."

The point is, the mystery of the Yeti has not been solved. Only that specimens brought in for analysis were not of a Yeti; not that the "mystery" of Yeti has been put to bed forever because now it's finally been debunked.

What was the point of this little item? Filler, sure. But why?

The little seed has been planted. Those who care at all with a whiff of doubt concerning the existence of Yeti/Sasquatch etc. will now feel vilified because they just read in the paper that the "mystery of the Yeti has been solved."

Images

At school today, noticed a little boy running around in a tee shirt with a large Sasquatch silhouette and "Newport Sasquatch Society" or some such. I don't think that was it exactly, but it did have something to do with the Oregon coast.  (Newport is an Oregon coastal town.)

Yeti/Wild Thing Synchronicity

I had a very disturbing dream last night. I think it was because I was coming down with something and my body/subconscious was reacting to that, because after I was awake for about an hour, I suddenly felt clammy, chilled, sore throat -- fall crud. The dream sounds almost funny in some ways but it was very scary, just your basic all around nightmare. Something about the Yeti, with giant claws, ripping people apart. And smaller sized Yetis -- in the dream, they were called "Yet-its" -- who looked more like stuffed toys than real creatures. They were watching the big monster Yeti dismembering people, their bodies (or, pieces of their bodies) slowly slip down the outside of the glass on the windows of the second floor room where I was watching all this, and damn glad of course I wasn't one of the victims. Blood, guts, human body parts, all sliding down the glass. The "Yet -its" were shocked, and sad, at this, because the big monster Yeti wasn't supposed to be a murderous monster, but something went wrong.

I was telling someone at work about this dream and described the "Yet-its" as looking like the characters from Where the Wild Things Are. And a minute later, someone walks into the room with a T-shirt with a large monster character from the book, with the title, in large letters: Where the Wild Things Are.

So, owls and Yetis and Wild Things; a message, synchronicity? Maybe the "message" is simply the appearance of the synchronicities themselves, appearing in animal form, since that's where I like to be -- in the animal realm.

As to the nature of the yucky dream; had another violent dream the night before that, though not involving animals. Sadly, a person I know. Some personal issues in my life right now. Not surprising, given that and my run down state, that my dream mind conjures up attacking Yetis!

"She Speaks Yeti??!!"

Watched The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor on cable tonight; I wasn't disappointed, because I expected it to be what it was. Just a fun silly escapist movie, not as good as the first one, though Michelle Yeoh was, as always, just wonderful to watch. When the characters trekked to the Himalayas I joked that they'd soon run into a Yeti. After our heroes find themselves in a lot of trouble in the Himalayas, the Yeti -- a few of them - come to their aid, having been summoned by the daughter of the Michele Yeoh character. Amazed at the arrival of the super sized, warrior Yeti, one character says of the daughter: "She speaks Yeti???!!!!" In this movie, the Yeti were on the side of good, helping to defeat evil. Yeah for the Yeti!

Groovy Book Find from Micah Hanks

Micah Hanks at The Gralien posts about his book find:The Long Walk, by Slavomir Rawicz and a chapter on the Yeti:
I recognized the book instantly, having heard about it before in various cryptozoological circles. Interestingly, one of the final chapters of the book is called “Strange Creatures”, and deals with a sighting of two Yeti during the men’s trek across the Himilayas. Having initially spotted them from a distance, Rawicz and his company had believed these might be bears or some other animals they might use for food. However, upon nearing their potential prey, they began to realize these weren’t any creatures they had ever seen before. Rawicz’s account of the strange sighting reads as follows:

The Abominable Snowman: Was Film's Creator Aware of Paranormal Bigfoot?

In this week's Trickster Realm for Binnall of America, I wonder if Nigel Kneale, writer of the 1957 film The Abominable Snowman: was aware of the paranormal characteristics of Bigfoot/Yeti?

Saturday, March 28, 2009

This was on the other day, and I caught the last half hour. I was struck by the telepathy and paranormal characteristics of the Yeti in this 1957 movie; this is the subject of my Trickster's Realm column for Binnall of America, which will be up sometime Monday. Here's a clip from the movie, which starred Peter Cushing and Forrest Tucker.

Way Cool Photos on Cryptomundo

But don't get too excited. . . they're great photos, but one is an admitted hoax, or more correctly, a promotional image for a TV show, the other, well, no info so far but just look at the damn thing and you'll see (one assumes) that it's a costume. See the thread here on Cryptomundo for images.

More Nazis From Cryptomundo

Wait, that didn't sound right. I meant, another item on Nazis and the Fortean from Cryptomundo, this time, Nazis and the Yeti. (One wonders what the Nazis would have done with a Yeti if they found it.) Interesting post, as always.
