The Silverton Bigfoot, and Killing It...

Lon Strickler at Phantoms and Monsters has this item about the yahoos -- podcasters at Dark Radio Jeff Gonzalez, Allen Thomas and Danny Valderrama --  who want to kill themselves a Bigfoot.

Phantoms and Monsters: Pulse of the Paranormal: If California-based paranormal experts do succeed in killing Bigfoot – the possible Silverton resident – local law enforcement promises to throw the book at them.
Good for the local law. Of course, determinations need to be concerning Sasquatch as human, as "just" an animal, etc. according to authorities. Still, they are not amused and will not look the other way if such a thing were to happen. Assuming there is a Silverton Bigfoot to begin with.

The usual justifications for killing Bigfoot are uttered:

On Friday, Gonzalez said, “We’re not ashamed to say it. We came out a few years ago, saying, ‘We need to shoot Bigfoot.’” To prove the existence of Bigfoot, scientists will require a body. Then they’ll be able to identify Bigfoot DNA and go from there.” (Phantoms and Monsters)
Oh, and then there's FOX, who will air Paranormal Central . . .

Lastly, there is this:

When I was a judge in Silverton years ago, a waiter used to run by the train in a monkey suit,” he said. Anybody planning an attempt on Bigfoot’s life “better be careful what they’re shooting at.”
Again, assuming any of that is also true, shooting at what one thinks is a Bigfoot and having the being turn out to be human would be a tragic event.

Sasquatch of the Underworld | Mysterious Universe

Nick Redfern has an item at Mysterious Universe on Bigfoot in Oregon and the theory that Sasquatch uses underground tunnels, mines, etc. These stories are from the early 1900s.

Sasquatch of the Underworld | Mysterious Universe: One of the most thought-provoking theories for Bigfoot’s overwhelming elusiveness suggests that the creatures spend a great deal of time living in natural caves and caverns, as well as abandoned, old mines. In the early 1900s, a number of stories surfaced in the Oregon press that, upon careful reflection, just might offer a degree of support for this particularly intriguing theory that Bigfoot is very much a creature of the underground. Hunter attacked by naked 'Sasquatch' asks: 'Why are you trying to kill me?' | OregonLive.com

This item making Oregon news sources; naked man, attacks hunter, says he's Sasquatch, given prison sentence:

Hunter attacked by naked 'Sasquatch' asks: 'Why are you trying to kill me?' | OregonLive.com: "Well, I asked him who he was, and he replied very calmly, just as sane as anyone, that his name was Linus Norgren," McDonald recalled. And in the same reasonable voice, that "he was a Sasquatch from a family of Sasquatches."

Scotland News and Views:Experts using fake monsters to test how people report encounters with mythical creatures - Scotland / News & Views / The Sunday Post

Experts using fake monsters to test how people report encounters with mythical creatures - Scotland / News & Views / The Sunday Post: Experts have been using fake monsters to test how people report encounters with mythical creatures.

One exercise saw one person unleashed in a popular Edinburgh attraction dressed in a gorilla suit, as part of a study to see how people react to so-called Bigfoot sightings.

The experts have also used props and costumes to create other beasts.
Okay. As The Anomalist points out, this study seems heavily "front loaded." And if the photo shown with this article is an example of what the experimenters are using as Bigfoot costumes, oy.

So much that is unhinged about this, as well as amusing. What of the witness who had, once, an actual sighting of a Sasquatch, or some other beastie, such as the Loch Ness creature, etc. How would that factor in? Or is it assumed no such witnesses exist, since no such creatures exist?

They could always try looking at actual reports from Bigfoot witnesses . . .

Phantoms and Monsters: Pulse of the Paranormal

Lon Strickler has a good post about the high strangeness factor that surrounds Sasquatch. I like the question he muses upon here:

Phantoms and Monsters: Pulse of the Paranormal: Is it possible that ghostly creatures or cryptids may roam our planet? Could these be residual energies of previous living beasts, that manifest and present the effect of non-terrestrial or interdimensional beings. On the other hand, is there a chance that we are chasing corporeal entities that slip in and out of our plane of existence? (Strickler, Phantoms and Monsters)
Critics of the non-flesh and blood idea ask this how it is that a creature can leave footprints, for example, but not be otherwise present? Well, ghosts do such things; leave behind physical effects (scratches, moving items, sounds, EVPS, etc.) even while not being fully flesh and blood. If ghosts, spirits and other non-human entities can pop in and out of our reality, why can't Sasquatch? I'm not suggesting Bigfoot is a "ghost", rather, that Sasquatch might share some of the same mechanisms ghosts and spirits exhibit.

Chautauqua legislators hear plea: Put Bigfoot on endangered species list - City & Region - The Buffalo News

Chautauqua legislators hear plea: Put Bigfoot on endangered species list - City & Region - The Buffalo News: MAYVILLE – Save Sasquatch.

That was the desperate plea Chautauqua County legislators heard Wednesday from Peter Wiemer, owner of We Wan Chu Cottages on Chautauqua Lake.

Wiemer wants the legislature to become the first governmental body in the country to put Bigfoot on the endangered species list.

Bozos: Bigfoot Hunters

And I mean that literally. Not as in searching for sightings of the elusive being, but the armed with intent to kill. Murder. Ammo, guns, high tech gadgets.  Goal: kill a Sasquatch. I am so sick of these buffoons and the promoters behind these hunts. The latest is the winner of Spike TVs "10 Million Dollar Big Foot Bounty" David Lauer.

David Lauer is a Florida hunter on a mission. After winning a $100,000 research grant on Spike TV's reality competition "10 Million Dollar Big Foot Bounty," Lauer has a strengthened resolve to find Bigfoot. The Mandarin outdoorsman says that after he and his hunting partner, Stacy Brown, won the prize money, he invested it into high-tech hunting gear, including game cameras, night vision recorders, heat seeking telescopes, DNA testing kits and a dart gun and plaster. He hopes these tools will help him track down the mysterious creature.
Don't forget about the bozos with guns Bigfoot "research" group Gulf Coast Bigfoot Research Organization (GCBRO) who are also on the hunt to kill Bigfoot.

GCBRO's justification is that a dead body will force the government to admit the creature exists. Or, killing a Bigfoot will "protect the public." That loathsome program -- Killing Bigfoot --  airs on Destination America, a station expert at regurgitationing paranormal, supernatural and cryptid content.

Sasquatch presented as a carny freak, and the hunters out to capture not just the creature alive but dead, to be displayed, dissected, and, as one yahoo from the GCBRO said "put it on a slab." That'll prove ya!

Oh of course I know all the arguments supporting a kill. Of course I do. (So save both of us some time and don't bother commenting with all the points within such arguments.)  I don't care. They're not enough. They're justifications and excuses but legitimate reasons, no.

I suppose if a Sasquatch were coming at me with intent to rip me asunder thane yes, I'd defend myself. That should be a given in any context -- if attacked, fight back. I mean really, do we even need to qualify the argument?

Bigfoot and UFO in Tillamook, Oregon

Big hat tip to Albert S. Rosales, who has been researching UFO tales containing humanoids for some time; he shared the following account from 1989 on his FB page:

Bigfoot aboard a UFO?
Location. Near Tillamook Oregon
Date: September 27 1989 Time: 1620
Alerted by her young granddaughter to something unusual outside, a woman confronted a disc hovering just above the ground near her farmhouse. Perhaps 20-30 feet in diameter, its shape was later draw as an inverted toy top and the surface described as “almost transparent.” A bright yellow-white light shone at two opposing points along the flat bottom. As the woman approached to within 30 feet, a doorway opened, revealing a human-like being of average height, with blond hair, fair skin, and blue eyes, dressed in a silver coverall. At a window next to the door was a “Bigfoot” creature, seemingly seated and visible from the chest up. For the next few minutes, the woman stared at the two, gaining the impression that the “human” was attempting (unsuccessfully) to communicate. Then the vehicle and beings vanished instantly (i.e. without accelerating beyond viewing range). The woman is a psychic, and claims to have had periodic encounters with UFOs and “Bigfoot” creatures throughout her life.HC addition # 116

Bigfoot Should be on Endangered Species List, New York County Legislators Hear

Sasquatch on an endangered species list?

Peter Wiemer, owner of We Wan Chu Cottages on Chautauqua Lake in New York’s Chautauqua County, said that the county could be the first governmental body in the US to place Bigfoot on the list. (Bigfoot Should be on Endangered Species List, New York County Legislators Hear)
Mention, for some unknown reason, of those Gulf Coast Bigfoot hunters:

As USA Today writer Leif Pettersen notes, “I recently spoke with Jim Landsdale, co-founder of the GCBRO, who made a point of telling me that Bigfoot hunts are not just guys firing shotguns and drinking beer. The hunts are quite regimented, ‘military style,’ with emphasis on gun safety. They are also careful to stay off private property or secure permission from the landowner ahead of time. Hunts can last anywhere from a week to 20 days, exploring paths and following tracks day and night.”

Well that's okay then. Good to know, you know, they're regimented and all.

An Animal Somewhere

Now it's true that many have seen a Sasquatch, but the sentiment stands. Of course, this doesn't just go for our Bigfoot friends, but for all creatures not seen.

7 things you should know about the Forest Service's media restrictions in wilderness | OregonLive.com

7 things you should know about the Forest Service's media restrictions in wilderness | OregonLive.com

At my para-political blog Octopus Confessional (with new blogger Alfred Lehmberg, who's just joined) I've posted the above link as well as another about fines citizens face for taking photos in our forests. Vague reasons are given for these laws, as well as the vague language of the laws themselves. And so, naturally, the mind wanders to implications conceding Bigfoot research. How do these laws affect Bigfoot researchers? What are the real reasons behind these laws -- do they have anything to do with the existence of Sasquatch, and/or the mysterious disappearances of people of all ages in our forests?

Bring Out Your Bigfoot: How 'Science' is Failing at Educating the Public | The Daily Grail

Greg Taylor at The Daily Grail discusses "science" in context of paranormal/supernatural realms: Bring Out Your Bigfoot: How 'Science' is Failing at Educating the Public | The Daily Grail.

And I say, to Greg, "Oh my word yes!"

I'll add my own rant here; when is UFO Land going to get over itself and stop whining about the presumed lack of "science" in relation to UFOs? More on that later, when I have time to properly rant in the appropriate manner.

Until then, visit The Daily Grail, which one should be doing on a daily basis anyway, and read Greg Taylor's latest.

From Bigfoot Evidence: This Person Has a Theory Why We'll Never Find Bigfoot

Well, this is different:

Bigfoot Evidence: This Person Has a Theory Why We'll Never Find Bigfoot: Our friend Ro Sahebi said this was sent his inbox a few days ago and said it was probably meant to come to our inbox instead. It's a fascinating email about why this person does not believe we'll ever find Bigfoot: It's because Bigfoot is a Nephilim, an offspring of fallen angels and earth women as recorded in the Bible.
Rest at the Bigfoot Evidence site. Yes, I know I've written that I won't link to or mention that site but I lied. Can't help lurking on anything UFO, Cryptid or overall Fortean tinged. While their insistence on yee-ha vibed, gratuitous images of animals eating each other, etc. caters to the basest  among the knuckle dragging, they do have some interesting things as well.

Anyway. The theory on Nephilim and Bigfoot. As always, the comments are equally interesting.
